Our family approach to business extends well past the warehouse doors–encompassing our customers, community, and environment. That means doing everything in our power to ensure the impact we have on the world around us is safe and sustainable for generations to come.
The Wilson Warehouse family of brands takes an intentional approach to integrating environmental responsibility and sustainability into our operations, supported by education and based on measured performance. In addition to rigorously following EPA and LDEQ regulations, we look to Ecovadis sustainability guidelines to gauge our performance related to environmental, human rights, labor, and business ethics.
Our passion for protecting the environment is inspired by Operation Clean Sweep®, an international program dedicated to eliminating plastic resin loss in operations. Thorough inspection checklists, guide spill prevention measures, and detailed spill containment plans ensure not a single plastic pellet and other waste debris makes its way out of our facilities. These critical commitments and other supporting initiatives can be seen in all aspects of our business:
It is important to us that we limit each warehouse’s carbon footprint and take measures to ensure efficiency through responsible logistics. This includes the utilization of electric forklifts and compressing used cardboard to reduce hauling. Energy-efficient, motion-detection lighting further conserves resources, while on-site waste management initiatives include recycling everything from paper, packaging, and plastic to forklift batteries and wooden pallets. Additionally, each facility hosts daily LEAN Meetings to help eliminate waste on our property and throughout the community.
We employ several tactics to minimize environmental impact and support a circular economy. We source materials from sustainable suppliers whenever possible and implement strategies to protect water resources. These include prepping storm basins, testing water samples for toxicity, maintaining underground tanks with certified procedures, and clearing litter to prevent flooding. Additionally, our in-house collection and water-filtering system ensures proper disposal of contaminants, keeping harmful chemicals out of the environment.
Our focus on sustainability also extends to our transportation methods. To lower our environmental impact, 100% of our tractor fleet is equipped with regen engine technology, which uses diesel exhaust fuel (DEF) to clean the exhaust and reduce emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx), a harmful air pollutant that contributes to smog, acid rain, and respiratory issues.
Sourcing packaging materials that are reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable helps minimize waste generation and environmental impact throughout the product life cycle. By right-sizing packaging and using alternative materials, we’re able to reduce our environmental footprint earlier in the supply chain for bigger impact. Our approach to reverse logistics–including returned package refurbishment and reuse–further conserves resources.
There’s a reason we say we’re stewards of goods and community: We’re proud to partner with neighbors and fellow businesses in Louisiana and East Texas on initiatives that positively impact our local environment like recycling, waste management, and trash pick-up programs. We host regular discussions with industry peers through the ACD Responsible Distribution™ program and provide thought leadership on responsible logistics at events like Supply Chain Baton Rouge.
The Wilson Warehouse family of brands has always concerned itself with more than logistics. We’ve built our reputation on doing right by the employees who work here, the customers we serve, and the communities in which we live. It’s a responsibility we willingly embrace, and it extends to the safety and sustainability of our shared environment.
